I am 29-year-old woman with a family history of breast cancer. My mother and grandmother were both diagnosed this year. For my grandmother, this is the second time. My aunt bravely fought aggressive breast cancer but sadly passed away a few years ago. Many more family members have been affected, these are just the recent cases in the family.

This year my mother and grandmother underwent genetic testing and found out they carry a mutation in the BRCA2 gene which is responsible for tumor-suppression. We finally understand why cancer has been so prevalent in the family. Now, my generation has the opportunity to do something about it.

I have not gotten tested yet but plan to. I started this blog to help me better understand breast cancer and give me an outlet to talk about it whenever I need. Part diary, part research, this blog is still a work in progress. If you find any of it helpful or want to add to the discussions, please join in. I more than welcome finding other people who can relate to this experience.

By the way, this blog is intended to be anonymous for both my own sake and my family’s. I’ve tried hard not to expose anyone’s identity. But if by some chance you know me personally, please respect my wish for anonymity.
